EARLY DAYS
The RFCSA Annual of 1952 gives us a little insight into the formation of the Supporters Association in this poem penned by a member, James Carr, who went on to become our Auditor, Treasurer and Social Convenor.
The Annual also reported generous donations to East Park Home; the Knockshinnoch Disaster Relief Fund (a collection taken at the Hearts match); a cordial meeting with the Celtic Supporters Association; the purchase of 5,000 tickets for the Scotland game at Wembley; a meeting with the local MP; and the Association’s attendance at the AGM of the National Playing Fields Association.
HOW IT STARTED

Nineteenth February, ‘Forty-six,
I thought my eyes were playing tricks,
There in the Record I did see,
An advert that appealed to me :
“Calling all Rangers fans,” it said,
“Residing in Springburn and Townhead.”
Straight home from work that night I ran,
Washed myself and clashed the pan,
Into my togs away like -ell,
Making for the Fountainwell.
When I got there what a drop,
Seemed it’s sure to be a flop,
In the Hunt’s Hall were fifteen strangers,
Who, like myself, supported Rangers.
We waited until eight-fifteen,
But still we numbered just sixteen.
McClymont who put in the ad.,
Got up at last and said “I’m glad,
At least this few have played their part.
I think we’d better make a start.”
He asked if there was someone there
Would volunteer to take the chair.
George Hunter said he might be able
To guide the meeting at the table.
For secretary we called upon
A chap named Geordie Littlejohn.
And from that night of consternation,
Has sprung our great “Association.”
It’s sound just now, let’s make it sounder,
A tribute to “McClymont, Founder.”
